Hi there…
Can anyone help? I think I know what the error message means…but don’t quite know how to fix it. Any Ideas? I am currently trying to find a system disk online — for this old laptop — maybe i don’t need one??? Anyways…here’s the problem>>>
On startup…the laptop counts up its memory and displays this error message:
HDC Error
Insert system disk in drive
I can access the Setup System and that seems to be about all!!? On the QuickRead Status Bar…it recognises/activates the Hard Drive and the Floppy Drive. My sister — who gave me the laptop to try to fix…said she use to get it going by leaving it in the airing cupboard — but this hasn’t helped me so far!!
So…any help is totally appreciated!!

Hi! When you say «correctly»….what exactly do you mean?! lol! — when I am in the setup, under Hard Disk, it says: HDD Mode — Enhanced IDE Normal. And of course on the QuickRead Status Bar, it recognises/activates the Hard Drive and the Floppy Drive.
Is this any indication of the Hard Disk/drive being detected?

It should state the size and other information like the number of cylinders etc.
If it states the size correctly, then it’s being detected properly.

Hmmm….yeah — looks like tis not recognising the hard drive fully then. Have got the hard drive in the airing cupboard to see if that will help!! it may do if the whole laptop use to work after being in the airing cupboard!! lol

When the laptop starts up it says Memory Initialize 1619KB and then it says HDC Error etc…. So I’m thinking that it recognises something — but do you think this means it’s not actually recognising the hard drive totally? Thanks again mate for you help — it really is heplful to have support and ideas etc!! Cheers.

I haven’t really done much, but you’re welcome.
It sounds like it’s trying to boot up, but can’t because it’s encountered an error with the hard drive.
If you have another PC, you could hook it up and that will soon tell you, but it really sounds like the hard drive is dying.
You could try to manually enter the drives information into the Bios (it’s written on the drive), but you really shouldn’t have to, and if the drive has had it, it won’t do anything.
There are also manufacturers’ utilities available to check the drive, but I don’t know how helpful that would be.
From that error message «HDC», it’s hard to say what it is.
I think it’s an acronym for either Hard Drive Crash, or Hard Drive Controller, which is the chip on the motherboard that controls the drive.

Arh right!!! oh welllllll….will give it one last go — as it’s (hard drive) been in the airing cupboard for a few days warming!! Yeah — looks like it’s a bit buggered then doesn’t it….i only wanted a laptop to just type word on etc…..so I didnt have to sit at this pc….another plan needed!!! lol

Thats all i can think of at that all controlers are not disabled.

Okay, so I have a Toshiba A135 S2636

Hi i am getting a a boot error with my toshiba satellite. That didnt with vista home premium. I realized my mistake when i tried to boot vista and menu and setting the HDD to 1.
Out of curiosity, what is your didnt. It says invalid boot.ini
UPDATE: The for half a second. It so i set a BIOS option from ACPH to dynamic. My memory is fuzzy, but I remember needing to use Vista’s built in disk i got a blinking cursor and a toshiba splash screen loop.
There should be an option to format dual boot between xp and vista.

HDD Conner проблема
Добрый день! есть три ноутбучных винта conner — CP2064, CP 2044, CP2081 и ноут TOSHIBA T1800 … проблема в след — в биосе винты определяются но при за грузке выходит HDC Error.. FDISK пишет что винта нет. MHDD ругается что не хватает памяти (2мБ всего на борту) чем потестировать винты подскажите пожалуйста..

хотя у тошиб обычно нет в биосе подробной конфигурации винта-если биос видит винт-там написано энхансед иде, если не видит-но драйв.
у ВАс что биос пишет?
попробуйте переставить перемычку на винте на слэйв-иногда дохлые винты так оживают, хотя по правде говоря беспроблеммных коннеров я еще не встречал.
если что-могу помочь родным тошибовским винтом

Как вариант — подключить винты к обычному компу через переходник IDE 2.5″->IDE 3.5″ и использовать тот же MHDD или Викторию.

переходник этот встанет в цену винта.
плюс к тому пробовал я винты которые на ноуте дают ХДЦ еррор подключать к обычному-та же фигня-вешают контродер

как раз сейчас ищу такой переходник на иде 3.5… юсб переходник то видит винт то нет… перемычки дергал в биосе размер определяет правильно

еще одна мысля посетила!
если у тебя диски однотипные-можно попробовать поочередно попереставлять платы на них.
я так лечил мелкие ИБМы в свое время.
исходил из идеи что не может одновременно умирать и механика и электрика

У него они разнотипные 
А HDC Error означает «ошибка контроллера жесткого диска», а не «ошибка жесткого диска». Поэтому лечить скорее всего придется не винты…

как я уже писал выше-такая же ошибка выскакивала у меня на десктопе при винте подключенном через переходник.
кстати платами от коннеров тоже могу поделиться если вдруг способ окажется действенным

Версия раз. нога сломана/дорожка порвана.
Версия два: тоши очень любили проприетарить диски. Там мог стоять банальный коннер на 60 мегабайт, но форматированный тошиковской утилитой.
— Студент, принесите из вивария живую мышь и подготовьте её к опыту.
Полученную кашицу…

I can’t find any information on this error at all. The error only came up once. Now the laptop will not boot completely. It starts processing the autoexec.bat and config.sys and then it just freezes. And then you hear the dreaded repetitive sound of the hard drive being accessed. I think his hard drive is dead. But I can’t be positive and I don’t want to scare him…….yet.

3.15 Wireless LAN Test (Atheros)
This section describes how to perform the wireless LAN transmitting-receiving test with the test program. (Atheros 11b/g)
NOTE: Use another computer (with Atheros 11b/g) that can communicate by the wireless LAN as a responder machine to perform this test.
When conducting this test, make sure that any wireless network device using 2.4GHz band other than IEEE 802.11b, such as Bluetooth, is not used nearby.
In this test, the following items are tested:
*Test PC side
(1)SKU (destination code) check
(2)Mac Address check
(3)Communication test (11a mode) (only for 11a/b/g card)
(4)Communication test (11g mode)
(5)Communication test (11b mode)
This program conducts the above test items continuously and displays results for each item during the test. However, only the last result for the whole test shall be checked. (The message «OK» or «NG» is displayed.)
When an «NG» item is detected during the test, the message «NG» is displayed on the screen and the test stops.
To start the Wireless LAN test program, follow the steps below:
NOTE: Before starting the wireless LAN test, make sure the Wireless Communication Switch on the left side of the computer is turned on. (The Wireless Communication LED lights orange.)

Setting the responder machine

3.16 Bluetooth Test
To execute the Bluetooth Test, use the Test Diagnostics disk (Bluetooth). Finish the tests of the Diagnostics disk (T&D) by selecting 99 — EXIT TO DIAGNOSTICS MENU in the DIAGNOSTIC TEST MENU. Then in the DIAGNOSTICS MENU, select 9 — EXIT TO MSDOS.
Insert the Test program disk (Bluetooth) in the floppy disk drive and turn on the power.
NICSPC73.EXE
Follow the steps below to perform the test program, NICSPC73.EXE. This Program checks the BD_ADDR function. Refer to Section 2.16, Bluetooth Troubleshooting, for a detailed description of the troubleshooting procedures for the Bluetooth.
1.Preparing the target machine for NICSPC73.EXE
(a)Insert a floppy disk containing the test program into the target machine and turn on the target machine.
(b)Prompts are displayed as shown in figure 3-1, if it is the first time the program has run.

NOTE: This subtest needs the test media (CD-R) created by wiring the data, CDTEST.DAT, in the SOUND/LAN/MODEM disk (Test Diagnostics disc (No.2)). Also before selecting this subtest, set the test media in the drive of the Tablet Dock.
This subtest compares the data of the test program and the data in the test media to check whether the data from the drive can be read correctly.
When the test starts, the following message will appear.
TEST LOOP : Y=[Y], N=[N]..?
Select either (press Y or N) and press Enter.
When the message «OK» or «NO» appears, press Enter to return to the menu screen.
To finish the Sound/LAN/Modem test, the computer power should be off.

3.18 Thermal Radiation Control Test
This thermal radiation control test checks the temperature of the CPU and GPU. To execute this test, use the diagnostics disk (Thermal radiation control) and follow the procedures below.
1.Turn on the computer and start the Windows.
2.Insert the diagnostic disk for the thermal radiation control test to the USB FDD.
3.Open the [EXPLORE] window and double-click the [THERMAL.bat] file in the diagnostic disk.
4.The input field appears on the screen. Then, input the temperature around the computer and click [OK] button. The thermal radiation control test starts.
5.The display counting from 900 to 0 seconds (for 15 minutes) appears on the screen. When the test ends normally, the following message appears in the display.
[Status:pass]
When an error is found, the following message appears in the display.
[Status:CPU:FAIL GPU:FAIL]
When the error message appears in the display, there is a possibility of breakage of CPU, GPU or FAN.
NOTE: The display on the screen changes while executing this test. This is not an error. Do not touch any key and keep executing the test, for this change applies some load to CPU and GPU for the test.
Close the test menu to end the thermal radiation control test.

3.20 HDC Status
When an error occurs in the hard disk test, the following message is displayed:
HDC status = XXXX
The hard disk test error status is displayed on the screen by a four-digit number.
The hard disk controller error status is composed of two bytes; the first byte displays the contents of the HDC error status register and the second byte displays the HDC error register. Each of them are indicated in hexadecimal form
The contents of the HDC error status register and error register are listed in Tables 3-5 and 3- 6.

3.21 FDD Cleaning
3.21.1Function Description
This function cleans the heads in the 3.5-inch FDD by executing a series of head load/seek and read operations. A cleaning disk is necessary to perform this program.
3.21.2 Operations
1. Selecting test 4-HEAD CLEANING from the DIAGNOSTIC MENU and pressing Enter displays the following messages:
DIAGNOSTICS – FLOPPY DISK HEAD CLEANING : V6.00
Mount cleaning disk(s) on drive(s).
Press any key when ready.
2.Remove the Diagnostics Disk from the FDD, then insert the cleaning disk and press
Enter.
3.When the following message appears, the FDD head cleaning has begun.
Cleaning start
4.The display automatically returns to the DIAGNOSTIC MENU when the program is completed.

This function logs error information generated while a test is in progress and stores the results in RAM. This function can also store data on a floppy disk or output the data to a display or a printer.
If the power switch is turned off, the error information will be lost. The error information is displayed in the following order:

2.Test name, Subtest number (TS-No)
3.Pass count (PASS)
4.Error status code (STS)
5.FDD/HDD or memory address (ADDR)
6.Write data (WD)

Старый ноут,Toshiba satellite pro 435cds,120Мгц,1,3Гб.Изначально накрылся винт-застучал…Комп стазу не выключили,а продолжали довольно долго мучать.
Винт стучать перестал.Купил другой винт-Seagate ST9810a-800mb,100% рабочий-подключал к обычному компу через переходник.Ноут этот винт раскручивает при старте нормально,но не видит,а после загрузки БИОСа
долго думает,потом пишет:HDC ERROR.В биосе винт тоже не виден.С дискеты в ДОС ноут грузится нормально,CD-rom тоже работает нормально.
Запускал какую-то тестилку из-под ДОСа-вроде HW test или HW монитор.Пишет что-то типа «HDD RESET ERROR»-два раза,но после того винт видит и его параметры вроде как кажет правильно.
Мой диагноз-что-то с IDE контроллером в ноуте.
Большая просьба помочь мне советом-что делать,где искать???Какие могут быть варианты ремонта?Может у кого есть схема этого чудовища или хотябы подскажете какой там контроллер в этой машине стоит.
Скажу сразу-до Москвы мне пилить больше 1000км.Опыт в ремонте современной электроники(но не ноутов) у меня большой.

Какие вообще есть варианты?Может,можно винт подключить на FDD контроллер через какую приблуду,или вместо CD-roma подключить?
Правда,в биосе возможности загрузки с CD-roma нет.Только FDD,HDD
Мне ОЧЕНЬ нужно ноут запустить хоть как-нибудь.От него требуется только Винда95 и рабочие PS/2 и COM-порт.Всем остальным-FDD,CD-rom и прочим можно пожертвовать.
Поможите люди добрые,кто чем может,ноут мне жена угробила.А для работы он мне очень нужен…
Неожиданное решение проблемы:
Ноут патологически не хотел видеть именно этот винт.
Купил другой Сигейт 1,5Гб,тоже из серии Маратон-встал без проблем и ограничений.
Кстати,подсказку о таком варианте видел в архиве одной англоязычной конфы.Один чел там написал в ветке об аналогичной проблеме,что мол в те времена был некоторый разброд и шатания с немного разными ide-интерфейсами винтов.
Наверное,он был прав…
Повторюсь-проблемный винт без вопросов работал на стационарных машинах.

Господа ремонтники, вот такая проблема образовалась. Вытащил из ноута (Tochiba 400CDT) винт (2Gb Tochiba), принес домой — подключить в настольный комп через переходник, винт не определился. Вставил в ноут, он говорит HDC Error и его не видет. При этом сам винт крутится, т.е. питание на него подается. Ставлю другой все ОК. Во время трансортировки повредить не мог, это 100%. Кто нить с таким сталкивался? _________________ |
