I have the same 404 error and anytime I do the instructions on the reply, it says that the files are open somewhere… But they clearly aren’t. So I have no clue how to fix it at this point

Well, that didn’t go as planned.
We weren’t able to find what you were looking for. It’s possible that the page has moved. If you typed in the address manually, please check to make sure everything is spelled correctly.

Game library error 404 on Origin is actually a very common error code. It usually occurs when gamers try to access and play their favorite titles, install a new DLC or buy one for that matter.

Of course, just like any other error, this error code prevents users from completing the tasks mentioned above, among other things.

So, if you’re looking for a way to fix Origin error 404, check out the solutions listed below.

This is How You Can Fix Origin Error 404

Fix 1 – Restart your  computer and modem/ router

First things first, shut down your PC and unplug your modem/router. This simple action allows you to fix various internal errors affecting your hardware.

Once you’ve rebooted your devices, check if the issue persists. If you’re lucky, the error should now be history.

Fix 2 – Disable your antivirus/ firewall

Some gamers confirmed that disabling antivirus and firewall helped the fix this issue. Don’t forget to turn on your antivirus and antimalware protection later on to keep your computer safe from threats.

Fix 3 – Make sure you’re signed into the right account

Check the account that you used to sign in. If you have more than one account, try logging in to Origin using any other email addresses you might have used before.

Fix 4 – Open Origin ports

Make sure that the following ports are open to enable connection between your computer and Origin’s servers:

  • TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 3216; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900.
  • UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900.

Fix 5 –  Clear your Origin cache

  1. Right click on the Origin icon in the task bar > close it.
  2. Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to launch Run.
  3. Copy %ProgramData%/Origin > hit Enter.
  4. Delete all the files and folders in the Origin folder, except for the LocalContent folder.
  5. Launch Run again >  copy %AppData% > hit Enter.
  6. You should now see the following folder: C:Users>your user name<AppDataRoaming Delete the Origin folder locate inside the
  7. Roaming folder Go to the address bar of your Windows Explorer > click on AppData.
  8. Open the Local folder > delate the Origin folder inside the Local folder.
  9. Restart your PC > check if the issue persists.

Fix 6 – Uninstall Origin

If nothing worked, try uninstalling the Origin client. For more information on how to do that, follow the steps listed on EA’s support page.

Reinstall Origin – in this manner, you’ll install the latest version of the tool which will hopefully fix error 404.

Hope something helps.

Solutions to Origin Errors

What is an Origin Error?

Key Indicators of an Origin Error

Solutions to Origin Errors

Regardless of the error you are seeing, it’s a good idea to first check that the DNS records at your host match those you have entered at Ezoic and that your SSL settings are correct. If you have recently moved hosts or your existing host has moved your site to a new server, then the origin server IPs will likely have changed, and the copy of these in your Ezoic account needs to be updated accordingly.

If you are still seeing an origin error after confirming that your DNS records and SSL settings are configured correctly, then it’s likely that Ezoic IPs are being miscategorized as ‘bot traffic’ by either a security feature or your host.

If you discover it is a security plugin blocking Ezoic, you can whitelist Ezoic’s IP ranges (linked at the end of this article) via their plugin (if you are using Wordfence, they have specific instructions for how you can make sure that requests via the Ezoic proxy are whitelisted. You can find these instructions here). Then clear the site cache.

Otherwise, there are four main options to help your host accept requests from Ezoic, any of which can be implemented by your host at your request. You may find that you are able to resolve your problem just by taking one of these steps, but if you’ve experienced an issue then it’s good practice to implement each of the solutions below.

1. Whitelisting Ezoic’s IP Addresses

If your host has blocked one or more of Ezoic’s IP addresses because it has mistaken it for bot traffic (typically, but not always, accompanied by a ‘403 Access Forbidden’ error, 520, or ‘Origin Error’), whitelisting Ezoic’s IP addresses will allow your host to recognize and authorize the IP addresses in question.

All you need to do to is send the listed Ezoic IP addresses below to your host, requesting that they add them to their whitelist.

52.20.63.25
3.225.202.138
3.217.200.190
54.212.71.227
52.12.170.68
34.218.21.81
3.7.90.144
13.127.240.219
18.139.6.69
18.140.184.0
3.106.6.164
3.106.176.6
13.237.131.67
15.222.77.144
15.222.108.52
18.157.131.187
18.157.105.182
3.126.25.160
34.248.174.237
52.16.85.139
34.255.61.232
15.236.165.82
15.236.137.228
15.236.166.30
18.228.20.129
18.228.107.195

Once you have whitelisted the above IPs, please contact our team so to complete the request for you and check that everything has gone through.

2. Set up an X-Forwarded-For Header

The X-Forwarded-For Header is a header field that you can use to make sure the ‘real’ IP of your users is passed along by a proxy like Ezoic or Cloudflare. This is especially helpful for specific features (like login forms) that need to see the original user’s IP. You can add this header to your server (and let your host know that they need to look for it and authorize requests on that basis), or ask your host to do it for you.

You can find instructions for implementing X-Forwarded-For on your site here.

3. User Agent Authentication

With all requests, Ezoic will send the actual IP of the user under the request header ‘x-middleton-ip’. If you explain this to your host, they should be able to find the request IP there, rather than by using a ‘requested-by’ header.

*If you are on a shared server and your host refuses to implement any of the above fixes on a shared server, then you may need to consider asking them if they would do so if you upgraded your hosting package, or else look at the possibility of using another hosting provider.

What is an Origin Error?

An Origin Error occurs whenever the origin server isn’t providing the site to Ezoic’s servers as expected. There is no one single cause of an origin error — for example, it may simply be that the site is down at your host, in which case Ezoic won’t be able to directly help. However, if you’re in the early stages of Ezoic integration and experience an origin error, this may be because your host has miscategorized Ezoic traffic, as explained below.

When you integrate with Ezoic, the system will act as a proxy between your site and your users, so that we can provide an Ezoic version of your site. Consequently, when Ezoic is turned on, instead of seeing requests from your users’ IP addresses directly, your origin server will see those requests as coming from Amazon Web Services. This can sometimes be incorrectly classified as ‘bot traffic’ by your host, which could prevent the page from loading or stop login pages from working, and in those cases this may create an ‘origin error’, which can look like this:

image

Key Indicators of an Origin Error

If you’re still very early in the process of Ezoic integration and you experience one of the following errors, there’s a good chance that this is due to the classification of Ezoic requests as bot traffic, as explained above, particularly if the error is only intermittent and not consistent.

  • 500‘ error
  • ‘Origin‘ error
  • 520‘ error
  • 403 Forbidden‘ error
  • 401‘ error (which may read ‘your IP has been used by spambots to register multiple times’)
  • 503‘ error (which may be due to requests being timed out when connecting to the host server)

**Please note, if you are seeing a ‘404‘ error code, or a ‘301 redirect‘ error, it’s possible that there is an error at your host and you will need to contact them to check.
