When I try to open MATLAB through a Remote Desktop Connection, I get the following error:
License Manager Error -103
Terminal Server Remote Client not allowed

Running MATLAB through terminal services is not supported for R2006a or earlier.
However, in some scenarios, Microsoft Remote Desktop can be used to run MATLAB R2006b or later releases.
This error can also occur when:
- Attempting to run MATLAB 6.5.x (R13) on unsupported versions of Windows later than Vista.
- When you are on a Windows XP machine with a standalone installation and multiple users are logged into it. To resolve the issue in this situation, the additional users must log out.

I get this error but the above doesn’t apply to me.
I’m running Matlab 2016a. It fails to run via Remote Desktop (both PCs running windows 
giving the error message above.
If Matlab was already started on the remote computer (when I was there in person), it continues to run fine. I just can’t quit and restart it.

As mentioned it has the problem in starting only, I tried to Initiate the program using TeamViewer and once it started I continue my remote desktop connection. Better to start it once anyhow. In my case i used team viewer.
Although the problem has been solved in Matlab R2019a.

move to licenses folder, open the *.lic file, replace all the «SIGN=» to «TS_OK SIGN=», save and problem solved.

This error 103 only occurs for situations involving network licenses, and involves a change to the license file that is stored on the server. Freshman students would not be administrating these files. If you encounter this problem then you should inform the IT support people responsible for the license.
Exception: Some cracks to use MATLAB without authorization involve changes that could potentially result in this error being given. The fix in such a case would be to obtain a paid version of MATLAB.

I was using Matlab 6.5 on my old Computer with Win XP. A week ago I’ve
bought a new HP laptop with Vista. Can’t run Matlab anymore. Think it’s
highly unfair that Vista isn’t compatible with XP. The prog installs properly

You mean to tell me that you didn’t research whether your very expensive
program would work on the Vista operating system *before* you bought a
computer with Vista preinstalled? Your options:
1. Return the computer and purchase one running XP. They are still
available.
2. Contact Matlab tech support to see about Vista support.

1. The solution with license.dat file didn’t do it i still get «terminal
server client not allowed»
2. I know that R2007b supports Vista but on the contrary you can say that
Vista doesn’t support R13 (6.5)
3. No I didn’t check it and yeah that is my fault. I always thought that
operating systems are for programs not the other way.
4. I think that Vista is blocking some kind of terminal services. Is there a
way to find out what is going on?

Trying to solve some boundary problems? Here you will have to workaround a
different boundary: to draw a line on and idiot and impersonator Malke.
Those were your initial conditions.
Error 1067 means «The process terminated unexpectedly.»
My, and I restate my hunch, is that you perhaps copied the directory with
MatLab from your XP to which this idiot and impersonator Malke is advising
you to go back and are trying to run the executable.
You MUST download the original zip from MatLab and INSTALL it. It WILL work.
Good luck with your boundary problems. I envy you.

Or you might just check and see if you can enable the terminal
server service: control panel->system and maintenance->system, then on the
system page open the remote settings by clicking it (its on the left).
Enable Allow Connections From computers Running Any Version Of.
You’ll have to allow flexlm to run as administrator.
The deal is that flexlm is the standard license management
deamon ALL these high end programs (like DRAC, Frame, and so on) use
and have used for decades. It’s a demon in the unix paradigm, a program
that listens on a socket and handles data. From your error it seems that
Vista is treating connection attempts as remote desktop accesses, and
since remote desktop is disabled by default that might be the problem.
Also, despite Malke the MVP being trite and nasty he does have
a point: Matlab support proably has something useful to say although that
might very well be «run linux» .

Why do I get license manager error-103?
License Manager error-103
Terminal Server remote client not allowed
Solution:
Contrary to the Error message text, this Error may be the result of changing u
sernames using the Sw Itch User feature in Windows xp. This feature can be enab
led on Windows XP computers that are not connected to a domain. It allows User
s to switch usernames without logging out or closing appl Tides.
If a user logs in under one username, MATLAB, and switches to another us
ername without closing MATLAB, they will receive license manager error-103 After usernames does not resolve the problem.

As described in the overview, the problem may be due to multi-user switching or “Windows Terminal Server” (such as remote service?). As a result, there should be no need to reinstall or system restore. Remote let the computer restart, login again or not open Matlab, the error message still exists. Consider the question of remote login. Because the remote login was used to use Matlab, Matlab was opened before the login, rather than after the remote login, which may be the reason why there was no error before and now there is an error. Matlab this error message, usually caused by remote login. The reason is probably a bug in FLEXlm. Therefore, if you want to use the software on the remote computer, you must first open the program on the remote computer, or you may run into this problem if you open it directly from the remote desktop.

Solution:
Contrary to the Error message text, this Error may be the result of changing u
sernames using the Sw Itch User feature in Windows xp. This feature can be enab
led on Windows XP computers that are not connected to a domain. It allows User
s to switch usernames without logging out or closing appl Tides.
If a user logs in under one username, MATLAB, and switches to another us
ername without closing MATLAB, they will receive license manager error-103 After usernames does not resolve the problem.

As described in the overview, the problem may be due to multi-user switching or “Windows Terminal Server” (such as remote service?). As a result, there should be no need to reinstall or system restore. Remote let the computer restart, login again or not open Matlab, the error message still exists. Consider the question of remote login. Because the remote login was used to use Matlab, Matlab was opened before the login, rather than after the remote login, which may be the reason why there was no error before and now there is an error. Matlab this error message, usually caused by remote login. The reason is probably a bug in FLEXlm. Any software that USES FLEXlm must have a local user login when it is opened, otherwise the remote login will be wrong. The same error can occur with Ansys, Solidworks, Proe, and some EDA software. Therefore, if you want to use the software on the remote computer, you must first open the program on the remote computer, or you may run into this problem if you open it directly from the remote desktop.
