I’m trying to send a message to another computer over network by using msg command. Both computers are using Win 7 Ultimate and are in same workgroup. I can send messages to myself just fine, but I get «Error 1825 getting session names» when I
try to send a message to that (or any other) computer.
So far I’ve tried:
-known solution to Error 5 (setting AllowRemoteRPC to 1 in registry)
-turning off firewall
-starting any service that has something to do with remote connection
-fixing WMI ports and port-forwarding them. Don’t know if I succeeded and if it’s even relevant, but I came across this when searching for solution to error 1825
I have a feeling it has something to do with router. I replaced original firmware with Tomato (v1.27) because of «quality of service». Router model is Linksys WRT54G/GS/GL. Any settings I should look for?
What else can I try to do? Error 1825 translates to «A security package specific error occurred. » — what exactly does this mean? Also, what are requirement for msg
command to work, apart from 2 or more computers, router and same workgroup?
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: I created a homegroup, and while both computers are joined, msg command gives me error 5 instead of 1825. As I said, I already applied known fix for error 5, so it must be something else. Also, homegroup doesn’t work as it should, computers don’t
detect each other and I do share libraries.
Another thing, when I joined the homegroup, cmd font became smaller on both computers. It should be 8×12 size by default, but 8×12 option disappeared. I fixed that now, but it’s still weird that joining a homegroup removed default font size in command prompt.
It makes me wondering what else did homegroup mess up.
Problem
Using cluster.exe on Windows to issue cluster commands may result in the following error:
System error 1825 has occurred (0x00000721).
A security package specific error occurred.
Cause
There is a security error when referencing the name of the cluster
Resolving The Problem
To bypass this error do not specify the name of the cluster:
Original:
C:>cluster /cluster:TSMCLUSTER resource «TSM Scheduler GroupA» /create /group:»Group1″ /type:»Generic Service»
Instead use a dot which represents the «current» cluster’s name:
C:>cluster . resource «TSM Scheduler GroupA» /create /group:»Group1″ /type:»Generic Service»

Problem : DFSR replication Issue A security package specific error occurred
Hey Guys.
Hope someone has an Idea about this.
Setting up DFSR between two servers. Both W2k3 R2 Member server, One a Virtual server running on Windows XP sp2. SBS Domain Controllor, Connected over IPsec Cisco VPN.
The setup of the DFSR all looks to work ok. I can even see the dsfrprivate folder being created at both the master and replication folder.
Yet I am gettting this error in Event log.
The DFS Replication service encountered an error communicating with partner MEL-VR01 for replication group domain.localDatasharedit.
Partner DNS address: mel-vr01.domain.local
Optional data if available:
Partner WINS Address: mel-vr01

The service will retry the connection periodically.
Additional Information:

Replication Group ID: ABECEFD9-0EE1-4B97-B172-2D7F0C9F5AEE
If I run DFSRdiag /syncnow I get this error.

I have tried recreating the Replication folders a few times and changed the service to run under my Domain Admin account.
Does anyone have any Idea what could be the problem.
Solution: DFSR replication Issue A security package specific error occurred
Ok just worked out the problem.
The issue was that the Virtual machine was running on a Window XP sp2 box that had windows Firewall enabled.
I ran DFSRdiag staticrpc:3000 to set the port to 3000
Then allow both TCP 143 and 3000 through the firstwall. Now replication is working.
Welcome to Spiceworks and its community.
Various times I’ve encountered this error and I see that it’s due to a duplicate IP address that stems from DNS.
How do you come to the conclusion that it stems from DNS? And what you think stems from DNS, the error message or assigning IP addresses multiple times?
I don’t believe DNS being the reason.

This is happening with users that are on a VPN connection via Pulse Secure client. Does anyone know why this is happening?
I don’t know Pulse Secure nor its client. And do you get this error on the site of the client?
I don’t expect such a situation originating of remote site but I consider it very probable of originating on the site of the client. If this is the case, you should have a closer look at which IP addresses your clients are using on their client side and which IP addresses are in use in your organisation where the VPN terminates. Different ISP and ISP routers select different default IP address ranges. You should make sure that where VPN terminates, other IP address ranges are used in order to prevent conflicts (duplicate IP addresses). So likely, some ISP routers of some of your clients are using the some IP address that is found in your organisation too.
And which kind of VPN are you doing? Are all clients using site-2-site VPN or connecting a single device to your organisation for each VPN connection?
If you’re not doing site-2-site VPN, then it might be possible that your IP address scheme at your organisation is not well suited for supporting a larger number of VPN connections and may need a change of address range. My guess is that some IP address on some client side exists also within your organisation causing a conflict on that client side. Doesn’t need to be the device originating the VPN connection but e.g. a network printer or other device there.
