80% of the time i startup on windows, I get the black screen of death. At random, when it does successfully launch windows 10, I am left with a number of issues with my GPU. When I try to update my driver software, radeon gives me the error 173, saying it cannot recognize the hardware that came installed on my 2013 Mac Pro.
What do now?

Issues with Bootcamp (Black Screen) — Mac Mini 2020
Hello —I’ve recently purchased a new Mac Mini 2020 3.0GHz 6-Core i5 and am looking to install Windows 10 via Bootcamp. I’ve tried this a few times by following other threads, but am still having issues so I’d figure I’d start my own.
Multiple attempts to install windows via bootcamp has not gotten me further than «Getting Devices Ready» during the windows install, and does not successfully reboot rather just show no input while keeping the Mac Mini powered on with a few at rebooting. This seems like the black screen error described in some other threads.
I tried installing the 1511 version of W10, which is now giving me an error during install of something along the lines of «cannot repair boot permissions». I believe I need to reset my PRAM (have already tried but unsure if successful given I didn’t hear a noise through external setup). I have the newest version of Catalina installed, and am inclined to wipe the Mac HDD and start fresh.
Let me know if you can point me in the right direction, and I will provide more information when I am back home later today.

Im using a Vega 56 graphic card with a mid-2014 13″ macbook pro. I cannot seem to download the AMD drivers. I keep getting «Error 173 — AMD Installer cannot continue since AMD graphics hardware was not found.» I have tried using both downloads from the original website and bootcampdrivers.com but continue to get the same error. Please help!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

I had issues with detection due to using a ti82 based eGPU (core V1) so I’m guessing it might be a similar situation, but to be honest I’m just guessing.

A huge THANK YOU to you! Although I already downloaded the purge-wrangler, it led me to another forum that fixed it as I was browsing around! Just had to find the right topic!

Awesome you got it working! You don’t need to run purge wrangler per os so not sure what happened to solve your issue? It was a bit of a stab in the dark to be honest but thought I’d at least try. What actually solved it in the end? What was the topic/forum?

Booting it with rEIFind fixed the problem! My computer was able to to detect and install the AMD drivers afterwards.
One quick question: I have a 2014 MacBook and was wondering if you knew how to turn off the apple light during clamshell mode?

purge-wrangler has no relation to this issue and is only for macOS. For eGPU to be detected, you just needed to boot with it plugged in into Windows while using apple_set_os.efi to keep iGPU active. There are many similar builds (iGPU only TB1/2 Macs).

@interestingdood, Hey! So i tried installing rEFInd and i made the mistake of not disabling the apple boot secure first so rEFind was blocked. At this point i Don’t know if I have to redo the process from scratch after uninstalling rEFInd because now that I am set correctly rEFInd still doesn’t boot at start up. I installed apple_set_efi as suggested @mac_editor and though this one booted succesfully and that followed the steps of this post https://egpu.io/forums/bootcamp/macbook-pro-16-windows-egpu-error-12-fix/
the egpu still isn’t detected when running the AMD driver.

Radeon
Win+I.
Radeon
%localappdata%/AMD/CN
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

Hey guys,
i just received my new iMac and alongside all the setups i am also looking at bootcamp for some gaming.
They keyboard is kinda wacky (no dimming via the keyboard? Q is @ instead of L?
But the bigger issue is that AMDs adrenalin claims that i have no AMD GPU installed.
I was running a 2012 iMac so far and got used to g force experiences just taking care of everything.
Could you point me in the right direction of setting this up? <3

The keyboard issues sort of sounds like the boot camp installer didn’t run upon initial boot up into Windows to setup the drivers for that. I had that happen last year with my 2019 iMac and the mouse wouldn’t work and only way to get the keyboard to work was plugging it in so windows saw it as a «wired» keyboard. That was fun trying to navigate to the folder where the boot camp drivers are located!
Yeah unlike with NVIDIA. AMD releases separate drivers for boot camp which are a few versions behind the PC versions and are probably controlled by Apple. Right now there isn’t a driver for the 2020 iMac on the AMD boot camp site. If you right click on the desktop, do you see a AMD radeon settings option in the pop up menu? If you do, the boot camp assistant installed the correct drivers for the card and going into there you will be running 19.50.

Nope. I don´t see it.
I tried to install the iMac pack by AMD but that dident work, it might be super dated as it is a few month old.
I thought i saw someone somewhere talking about how this card pretty much had drivers for ogpu already. I was wondering if maybe it i need the MacPro driver set. Pretty confused right now.

Did the boot camp installer open upon initial boot?
Try going through these steps.

It was open and installed something. Yes.
I also got the apple software update thing in my list of programs. (there are no updates)

19.50 is
- MacBook Pro (Retina, 16-inch, 2020) with Radeon Pro 5600M
though.
Hmmm.

Yeah, but a version of 19.50 I guess is what got downloaded to my iMac when I installed windows through boot camp.
I would try going through these steps to reinstall the support software and see what happens.

The issue is AMD hasn’t released drivers for the 2020 iMac yet besides the one boot camp installs upon installation of Windows.
That sounds very unprofessional. It’s a 600€ upsell, making this a 800€ GPU essentially.
But still I SHOULD have the AMD menu? When I right click the desktop? Because that I don’t have.
Tried xCom 2 today and was shocked how bad it was performing beyond 1080p. I know this is not a gaming machine, but that’s a game several years old.
Anno 1800 also is fairly choppy. Not feeling 30fps at all. Considering that game ran fairly fine on my 21.5 2012 iMac (at lower settings, but still) it feels like optimization is missing.
Planet Zoo is running fine though. Just had to figure out how to upscale the interface.
Starcraft 2 (under MacOS) also seems to be doing fine.

Yeah whatever reason, we are always a year behind or so in drivers with Windows.

I am trying to update to 20.4.2 for the Radeon Pro 5700 XT in my 2020 27 inch iMac. I am not able to get it to work with the AMD bootcamp software. Their website says to contact the manufacturer (Apple) for driver support. Does anyone know if Apple is planning on updating the drivers?

The normal drivers do not work with the Mac version of the 5700 XT. Have to install the boot camp drivers from the site linked above which the latest is 19.50.

Hi,
has anybody news or an instruction, how to update the AMD driver? I have still the 19.50 Version (iMac 27″,2020),
and I have a lot of graphic problems, slow Windows, very slow working 3D display, etc.etc. etc.
I have tried all possible drivers, from AMD and Apple suggested, but every time I want to install it I get an Error 173, no AMD graphic card installed, so I cannot install any other driver. No Pro driver nor a radeon driver

I have been using Bootcampdrivers.com as well for years and they guy who does the modding to make them work is awesome. For full 5K you’ll need the Blue Drivers. The Red drivers give a slight FPS boost for gaming but you’re limited to 4K.

In case anyone but me cares. The drivers just got their annual update. (great service for a card sold at that price point as per AMD usual… god do i miss nVedia just giving us every update)
Version Numer 19.50.32.03 -> 20.45
